Event Theme: The Ladies Book and Luncheon Club

Get ready for a weekend of both fun and serious discussion of two books: "Death by Chocolate" by Sally Berneathy and "Being Mortal" by Atul Gawande.

Lunch will be provided by the Club on both Saturday and Sunday.  For those of you who like to dress for the occasion make sure to bring your best spring bonnet and your white gloves!  If you dress up just right, you may win a prize.

As usual we will have an evening of competitive games where all can participate and win huge prizes.  We will also have an evening film that is based upon a novel.  All in all, it looks to be like a fun Cascadia weekend of fun, food and friends.

Just a little heads-up – there are a ton of books entitled Death by Chocolate!  Please make sure you get the one written by author Sally Berneathy.  It is a very light and fun mystery read about death and lots of chocolate.

Cascadians Ruth Gregerson and Lynda Byrd will help us focus our discussion and look at some of those difficult 'end of life' questions.

Sunday Afternoon and Evening

  • 3:30 pm Veterans Tribute in the Clubhouse
  • 5:30 pm Potluck - Bring a dish of your choice to share
  • 7:00 pm Movie and Popcorn! the film JULIA is loosely based on Lillian Hellman's 1973 book: "Pentimento". While the author, her book, the actresses, and this film have been controversial, I choose to view the film as one about female friendship, strong women and tests of personal character-nothing more, nothing less. If we avoid any discussion of the political views expressed in the film, I believe that we will find that we enjoy it. I thank you in advance. (Sage MacLeod)
