Event Write-Up

Cascadia RVW at Leavenworth, WA
September 25 – 27, 2016

“The autumn leaves, drift by my window…”. Yes, indeed, autumn is here and we got to enjoy the beauty of the season at Leavenworth, WA. For our September event, fifty two Cascadia members, arriving in 28 rigs plus some in cars, gathered at Icicle River RV Resort for the weekend where the nights were chilly and the days were sunny.  It was the weekend of the Autumn Leaf Festival in town so our normal activities were suspended so we could spend time taking in the local event.
As usual, most of our group arrived a day early in order to take full advantage of the beautiful setting as well as all the things Leavenworth has to offer. Our first official gathering was on Friday evening where we enjoyed a “colorful” potluck feast. And, to celebrate the beginning of football season, there were multiple door prizes, all featuring a Seahawks theme.  After dinner and dog walking, many people returned to the clubhouse to play the usual assortment of games.
On Saturday morning, the club provided a continental breakfast before the book group met to discuss Letters of a Woman Homesteader by Leinor Pruitt Stewart. As usual, Michelle led a lively discussion. Our book for next month is The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.
The rest of the day was left open for people to do as they wished. Many ventured into town for a bit of shopping, sampling the local brews and/or wines, viewing the art work on display, or dining at one of the fine eating establishments.  There was a parade at noon, complete with many local high school bands, floats, and all the other usual parade participants. There was no shortage of ways to entertain oneself. Those who didn’t wish to battle the crowds found other ways to enjoy the day, with biking, hiking, games, or just hanging out with friends.
Sunday morning we christened one rig for a new member from Canada and then, after another fine rendition of “Happy Trails” and “Going to the Campground” we said goodbye. Some people were heading to the national convention, some were moving on to another campground for a few more days, and some were heading home. Our next, and final, gathering for 2016, will be at Fidalgo Bay RV Resort.
